Child Protection

Putting Your Child’s Safety First

WIA is dedicated to preventing child abuse and ensuring that children are protected in line with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, of which the Federal Republic of Nigeria is a signatory.

This commitment implies that when the School makes a judgment on suspected incidents of abuse or neglect, it prioritizes the interests and wellbeing of children. We make certain that all of the children in our care grow and develop in a safe and secure environment. Educators are in a unique position to identify children who need aid and protection because they have the chance to observe and engage with them over time. As a result, we have a professional and ethical responsibility to detect situations of neglect or abuse and to take actions to ensure that the child and family receive the assistance they require to correct any condition that constitutes abuse or neglect.

Definition of Child Abuse and Neglect

WIA’s community is varied, with a wide range of cultural ideas, values, and traditions. For the sake of our child safety policy, the School has opted to adopt the following guidelines to respect the worldwide character of the World Health Organization’s (WHO’s) definitions of abuse and neglect.

The WHO declares that:

“Child abuse or maltreatment constitutes all forms of physical and/or emotional ill-treatment, sexual abuse, neglect, or negligent treatment, resulting in actual or potential harm to the child’s health, survival, development, or dignity in the context of a relationship of responsibility, trust, or power.”

AT WIA, THE PILLARS OF CHILD PROTECTION

Our top concern is to ensure that students and the whole WIA community are safe and healthy.

Background Checks

As a requirement of employment, all WIA workers must pass regular background checks.

Employee Training

Every three years, a licensed child protection expert trains all staff on child protection problems. All new staff are given on-the-job training right away.

Child safety committee

Our Child Safety Committee, which includes a delegate from each section, ensures that any cases of child abuse or neglect receive prompt attention, assessment, and action.
